Police detective joins forces with a Department of Health inspector (Natascha McElhone) to find a sadistic serial killer (Stephen Rea personifying calculated evil) who broadcasts heinous acts of torture on the Internet via a live snuff-cam. The killer is hard to track because he uses a new Web site for each grisly killing and he delights in having his victims eventually beg to be murdered, thus reducing—at least in his own sick mind—his final act of violence from homicide to merciful assisted suicide. The case escalates in horror and grisly detail as voyeurs who visit the site bleed from their nose and eyes before also becoming victims of their deepest fears. This illogical, repulsive nightmare that involves the vengeful ghost of the site’s first victim is directed by William Malone (1999’s
House on Haunted Hill).
