Fat city grill
OK, so throwing two or three slices of fried pastrami on a charbroiled beef patty, like Stockton Burgers does with its “Super Burger,” isn’t a totally original idea—the meat sliders at Awful Wally’s over in North Sac have been doing it for a long time now. But that’s clear across town for the denizens of the Stockton Boulevard/Broadway/UC Davis Medical Center area. Where are they supposed to turn for their burnt, fried and otherwise charred meat products? Look no farther than 2033 Stockton Blvd., where the Super Burger is indeed super: A massive, sesame-encrusted bun encasing a crispy, one-third-pound burger that’s burnt on the edges, smothered with pastrami and cheese, and topped off with lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion and Thousand Island dressing. One bite, and you won’t care if someone else thought of it first. Originality is overrated, anyway.
