Fashion relativity

Fashion is a big deal.
Sure, Albert Einstein allegedly avoided thinking about fashion by wearing the same thing every day, but since most of us aren’t attempting to discover a new theory of special relativity, it may be wise to think about fashion a little.
For lovers of fashion—or those from the Einstein-camp who need some fashionable ideas—the Designing Dreams Charity Fashion Show will be Saturday, August 7, at 7 p.m. at the Sacramento Memorial Auditorium (1515 J Street). The event will feature local designers, local models and is hosted by Couture Connection, a fashion public-relations firm based out of Folsom.
It also features a 92-foot-long runway and professional concert lighting. Sure, it may not be like the Copenhagen Fashion Week in Denmark, which will debut a mile-long runway in mid-August—but an exhausted model sweating in new clothes isn’t a good thing. However, it will have all the glamour of a big-city fashion week, but with a Sacramento feel.
The headline designer is Sacramento-based Tiana Vega, who already has the unique-name thing going for her. She stated in a news release, “This collection is all about capturing the person you are and the person you lust to be.” Hmm, sounds quite Coco Chanel-esque. Seven additional designers will be featured, including Linzel Couture, Melissa Kay and Tomiko Abella.
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $50 for VIP admission. Some proceeds from the event will benefit the Sweet Dreams Foundation, which will be used to design the dream bedroom for a 7-year-old girl battling xeroderma pigmentosum. It’s a megadose of fashion philanthropy.
