Farewell

The theater community lost a valued member with the passing of Anthony DeFonte, who died of a heart attack on July 19. DeFonte was a 35-year veteran of the stage, working at theaters across the country (including eight seasons in Ashland, Ore.).

DeFonte came to Sacramento in 2001 to appear in the Sacramento Theatre Company’s Arms and the Man. While in town, DeFonte took in a show at the B Street Theatre. In the lobby, by chance, he met Suzanne Connors, the “love of his life.” DeFonte soon settled here, and they married and bought a home.

DeFonte’s local appearances included Arcadia, Educating Rita and The Late, Great Henry Boyle. He directed plays at the Sacramento Theatre Company and the Delta King Theatre, as well as Richard Broadhurst’s Inside at the Guild Theater.
