Farewell, Foothills
It’s sad to note the passing of a local professional theater group, as Foothills Theatre Company announced last week that they’d be “going dark.” FTC had survived a close call last fall with some aggressive fundraising and a reduced season (the standard for local professional companies; B Street Theatre, Capital Stage and the Sacramento Theatre Company all have substituted smaller shows this season, and STC canceled the season on their small stage). FTC board members left open the possibility of a return at a later, rosier time—if and when the economy picks up and they’re able to retire the debt that the nonprofit has accrued trying to keep the doors open. FTC won’t be declaring bankruptcy or dissolving the company; they’ll just “go to sleep” and wait for warmer days to awaken.
