The Dixon May Fair is the oldest fair in California. At 135 years old, it possesses the power to attract major musical acts and thousands of fairgoers who try things they normally wouldn’t dare, such as consuming mass quantities of deep-fried food before boarding a flipping and twirling carnival ride. It’s not the smartest idea, but it happens every year. The fair’s historic quality also allows it to get away with a cheesy-as-hell theme—“Fun for Ewe.” Yep, cheese city. That said, it’s an awesome fair featuring all the usual suspects: carnival rides, a petting zoo, arts and crafts, FFA and 4-H exhibits and more. Musical acts this year include Foreigner, Billy Currington, Pat Benatar and Creedence Clearwater Revisited. There also will be a demolition derby on Sunday.

Dixon May Fair will be Thursday, May 6, through Sunday, May 9, from 10 a.m. to close; $6-$10, $5 for parking, tickets for concerts are additional; Dixon May Fairgrounds, 655 S. First Street in Dixon; (707) 678-5529; www.dixonmayfair.com.
