Fabulous prizes
It’s newspaper awards season, and that means another self-aggrandizing installment of “stuff we won.” Roll your eyes if you must, but here goes:
In this year’s California Newspaper Publisher Association’s Better Newspaper Awards, former SN&R editor Nancy Brands Ward’s cover story “Local faces of AIDS” snagged second place in the big weekly category for feature writing. Frequent contributor Sasha Abramsky also scored a deuce in the business writing category for his cover story “Has the bubble burst?” And the design duo of David Jayne and Don Button won first place in the info-graphic category for “Too many and counting,” part of our 2006 special issue on the war in Iraq. Special thanks for “Too many” are due also to former-intern extraordinaire Rachel Gregg, who crunched the numbers.
