Even sardines know how to rock

For those of us with claustrophobia, downtown venue Old Ironsides can be a challenging place to see a show when a lot of other folks decide to turn out, too. Still, sometimes it’s necessary to brave the crowds, especially when a bill as tantalizing as the brilliant local pop-rock combo Deathray, along with Safari—which includes former members of Holiday Flyer, California Oranges and the Sinking Ships—turns up. Factor in a solo turn by Deathray songwriter and frontman Dana Gumbiner to open the show, and even the most afflicted claustrophobe must consider sacrificing a little momentary discomfort to gain musical bliss. The 21-and-over show starts at 9 p.m. on Saturday, January 31; the venue’s at 1901 10th Street; and admission is $7.
