Eight Gigs: Wild Child
Tues., Feb. 17, 7 p.m., Harlow’s Restaurant & Nightclub, $12-$14
Wild Child's gentle, folk-inspired pop-rock combines the fey, understated, orchestral warmth of the Decemberists with the willowy old-timey gypsy-jazz grace of Jolie Holland. Violinist and singer Kelsey Wilson's crisp vibrato's twists in the winter chill against the earthy baritone of ukulele-playing, harmonizing counterpart Alexander Beggins. The partnership was born in the back of a van touring with other Austin bands. In the last five years the sextet's blossomed two buzzed-about albums, notably 2013's The Runaround. They're joined by Utah's Desert Noises, whose meditative folk-psych gets significantly rowdier on its third album, 27 Ways, pulled by an undertow of sun-baked Southwestern blues. 2708 J Street, www.wildchildsounds.com.
