Eight Gigs: Ursula Lynn
Sat., May 6, 7 p.m., The Colony, $7
Singer-songwriter Ursula Lynn’s soulfully sad Americana ballads are pensive little tunes; stark and unadorned melodies played out with only the strumming of a guitar and the exposed smoldering-sweet sound of Lynn’s charming voice. In her best song, “Girlhood,” Lynn finally finds perspective within the tempest and plaintively sings, “Honey, I’ve gotten real good at pretending / And keeping the ugly inside / Learned to laugh at the jokes, and to trail behind / Because a woman is better when she’s a beautiful lie.” 3512 Stockton Boulevard, www.ursulalynn.bandcamp.com.
