Eight Gigs: Ty Herndon
Sun., May 22, 11 a.m., Central Park, no cover
Country music is arguably the least queer-friendly genre around. In 2014, Grammy-nominated Ty Herndon became one of only a handful of country singers to come out publicly. In past interviews, he’s said that he knew he was gay since childhood, but had trouble reconciling that with two major parts of his identity: Christianity and country. This all makes him a prime headliner for Davis Pride, which got resurrected last year after an inactive decade. Also slated to play is ethereal electropop group the Seshen out of the Bay Area and local Davis musician James Williams. 401 C Street in Davis, www.tyherndon.com.
