Eight Gigs: Tom Petty Tribute
Fri., Feb. 13, 9 p.m., Old Ironsides, $5
Tom Petty is a bit of a phenomenon. While most other artists seem to peak in their early years, and then end their careers by just slogging out the 20-year-old hits, Petty has only gotten better. His work in the '70s was good, but 1994's Wildflowers and 1999's Echo were mature, classic masterpieces (last year's Hypnotic Eye wasn't bad either). This Friday, local musicians honor his legacy, which doesn't seem to be ending any time soon (see: recent Sam Smith lawsuit). Bands include the Nickel Slots (pictured), 50 Watt Heavy, Sealegs, Bright Faces, Blame the Bishop, Captain Amazing and the OK I Guesses, and more. 1901 10th Street, www.theoldironsides.com.
