Eight Gigs: The Movement
Thur., April 28, 7 p.m., The Boardwalk, $12-$15
Touring on the strength of its sixth studio album, Golden, the Movement performs reggae fusion that is constantly evolving and absorbing genres under the dub umbrella. G-funk synths, cinematic rap production and electronica are all factors in Golden, and the Movement effortlessly maneuvers this fusion sans appropriation—a monumental feat the band has dodged for 12 years. Californians love them some white-boy reggae, and the Movement nestles right into that comfort zone, but don’t mistake the band as roots colonialists. 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale, www.facebook.com/themovementvibe.
