Eight Gigs: The Mindful

Once the lead guitarist for local teen metal band Nephilim, Brett Rechtfertig has grown up, left for the prestigious Berklee School of Music and returned a new man. Specifically, a man in a nonmetal band. His new project, the Mindful, explores different styles of American music and unifies them across time and space. That means Americana, of course, but also jazz, rock ’n’ roll and funk, with lyrics that draw from folklore, spirituality and the Old West.
