Eight Gigs: The Aggrolites
Thur., Dec. 3, 7 p.m., The Boardwalk, $13-$15
When it comes to proven reggae pedigree, the Aggrolites' genes run deep. The Los Angeles group formed as the backing band of reggae legend Derrick Morgan only to remain together from 2002 on. An amalgamation of ska-reggae bands the Vessels and the Rhythm Doctors, the Aggrolites turned a one-off formation into six albums and multiple compilation appearances. Their sound is akin to the skinhead reggae of 1970's U.K.—a working-class subculture heavily influenced by Lee “Scratch” Perry and Junior Murvin. Expect a set that spans the discography. 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale, www.aggroreggae.com.
