Eight Gigs: Swingle Singers
Tues., Feb. 24, 7 p.m., Harris Center for the Arts, $19-$39
Contrary to what the name might suggest, this is not a band of singers made up of swinging singles. Rather, the Grammy-winning seven-piece vocal group—originally formed in Paris in 1962 by the eponymous Ward Swingle—performs a capella renditions of both classic and original material. For instance, they do Beyonce's “Single Ladies”—only it's a more PG version called “Swingle Ladies” (and instead of “I'm up on him / He up on me,” it's “I'm sweet on him / He's sweet on me,” among other differences.) The group is touring ahead of the release of its new album Deep End later this year. 10 College Parkway in Folsom, www.theswingles.co.uk.
