Eight Gigs: Steelin' Dan
Sat., Feb. 7, 7 p.m., Harlow’s Restaurant & Nightclub, $15-$20
Steely Dan's sound is distinct, blending genres long before that was hip. It's songwriting is solid, intelligent and unafraid to comment on the times. Then there's the band's catalog: “Hey Nineteen,” “Peg,” “Do It Again,” “Deacon Blues,” “Kid Charlemagne” and “Reelin' in the Years” still rotate on classic rock stations. A game of “name that song” can be played with the first couple of notes of any Steely Dan tune, but a game of “name that band” might be a bit trickier when the 10 members of Steelin' Dan (Sammie winner for Best Cover Band in 2011) take the stage at this all-ages show. 2708 J Street, www.steelindan.com.
