Eight Gigs: SFJazz Collective

It took about a dozen years for SFJazz Collective, an all-star jazz octet known for its innovation and egalitarian format, to get around to covering Miles Davis. The award-winning San Francisco-based group renews itself annually by producing eight new original works and eight new arrangements of tunes by jazz greats; this year it’s Miles. What may seem like a small group format certainly contains a large collection of jazz talent. The transformative ensemble has also changed players over the years, bringing new influences and talents into the mix.
