Eight Gigs: Sam Bush
Fri, July 8, 7 p.m., Crest Theatre, $25-$45
The King of Telluride, the Newgrass Guru—Sam Bush is coming to the Crest Theatre, mandolin and fiddle in tow, to play everyone’s favorite mountain-driving tunes this Friday. The leader and founder of the New Grass Revival, Bush’s fate as a hill-country music pioneer was set when he bought his first mandolin at age 11. His fingerpicking foot-stompers like “Black Mountain Rag” will leave you reaching for the moonshine, while pensive tunes like “White Bird” soothe with soulful croons and somber imagery. Bush is folksy, gentle, fun. His depth and breadth speak to why many already consider him a bluegrass legend. 1013 K Street, www.sambush.com.
