Eight Gigs: Ross Hammond
Sun., April 12, 4 p.m., Gold Lion Arts, $10
Ross Hammond is known locally (and nationally) as an experimental jazz guitarist who's always willing to try new things. Indeed, he seems to assemble new projects on a near daily basis. He also hosts Nebraska Mondays at Luna's Cafe, which is basically the weekly music series to be at if you crave underground jazz and avant-garde music. He releases his new solo album Flight at two shows this week (Sunday at Gold Lion Arts and Monday at Luna's). It's a purely solo record, with Ross playing just acoustic guitars on it (6-string, 12-string, slide). It's a unique blend of Delta Blues and free jazz—minimalistic, intimate and wildly adventurous. 2733 Riverside Boulevard, www.rosshammond.com.
