Eight Gigs: Rita Hosking
Fri., March 18, 7 p.m., Veterans Memorial Center Theatre, $12-$15
Davis-based Rita Hosking descends from Cornish miners, and she carries on her family tradition through song. No, she doesn’t sing in mines, but her country-folk feels rooted in a clear sense of place. Her poetic lyrics tell stories, and they’ve won her accolades since she first started recording music more than a decade ago. It’s not quite bluegrass, but it hits your soul in a similar, visceral way. On this evening, she’ll play guitar, harmonica and banjo with the official Rita Hosking Band, featuring Sean Feder on dobro and banjo, Bill Dakin on upright bass and Andy Lentz on fiddle. 203 E. 14th Street in Davis, www.ritahosking.com.
