Eight Gigs: Pointdexter
Wed., March 11, noon, Sacramento State University Union, no cover
Local four-piece, heavy alt-rock group PointDexter recently released a video for its song “Blood to Black,” one of its particularly moody tunes. It follows a disturbed girl that stalks and kills everyone in the band except one—who she ties up and sips wine with. The song has the same dark, eerie quality the video has. Yet, on other tunes, PointDexter delivers an upbeat, ultra-hooky pop-punk sound with plenty of hard-hitting guitar syncopation. The name PointDexter is a reference to the group's mad-scientist approach of mixing different influences: There's a bit of classic rock, blues, post-grunge and emo-punk in there. The quartet takes a lot of left turns in style and in tone. 6000 J Street, www.facebook.com/PointDexterMusic.
