Eight Gigs: Moving Units
Wed., Aug. 3, 8 p.m., Harlow’s Restaurant & Nightclub, $12-$14
Los Angeles post-punk band Moving Units is presently on a West Coast tour devoted to the songs of Joy Division, and anyone familiar with the band’s heavily post-punk-influenced dance-punk tunes will get why; that English four-piece—famously formed in the wake of a Sex Pistols show—left an indelible mark on the music scene of the late ’70s, going on to form New Order after the tragic suicide of lead singer Ian Curtis in 1980. Catch these L.A. veterans paying an homage to the trailblazers (though they’re making sure to fit in some new original material from their latest release, Dancing With Care, as well). 2708 J Street, http://movingunits.net.
