Eight Gigs: Luciana Souza

After racking up six Grammy nominations as a renowned jazz vocalist, Luciana Souza has decided to change things up a bit—she’s nearly forgone the whole concept of singing recognizable words. Souza describes Speaking in Tongues, released in the fall of last year, as a “musical inquiry into language and conversation,” and it is accordingly experimental and intriguing. There are actually two tracks with lyrics, but they make you question the concept of what a song really is. (One might suppose that this is Souza’s question, too.)
