Eight gigs: Left Coast Country
Wed., July 6, 9 p.m., The Torch Club, $5
No one would blame you if the phrase “Portland bluegrass” conjures up an image of some precious, suspender-clad, suspiciously good-looking young people plucking a banjo and singing about Appalachia (which they intend to visit for the first time very soon!). But you’d be remiss to lump Left Coast Country into that stereotype. This five-piece produces pleasingly low-fi, rough-and-tumble, often lightning-speed bluegrass that isn’t a new take on an old thing so much as simply a good version of an old thing. The band is presently on tour in support of its latest release, Pines Fly By. 904 15th Street, www.leftcoastcountry.com.
