Eight Gigs: Honkey D
Fri., July 1, 9 p.m., Fox & Goose, $10
Any music lover that’s lived in Sacramento for a while is no doubt familiar with Dean Haakenson’s indie-folk-rock band Be Brave Bold Robot. This Saturday, Haakenson takes a sharp left turn with the release of Short Raps Project, which contains 36 roughly minute-long rap tunes. Haakenson (or Honkey D) does a lot of the rapping, but much of the Sacramento music community contributes beats and raps, including Death Grips’ Flatlander, Saint Solitaire’s Andrew Barnhart and singer-songwriter Justin Farren. The end result is insanely fun and oddly authentic. 1001 R Street, www.facebook.com/bebraveboldrobot.
