Eight Gigs: Ghoul School
Sat., Jan. 7, 8 p.m., Starlite Lounge, $8
Founded in the summer of 2016, Ghoul School has skyrocketed into pop iconography in the Sacramento area with its sweet, indie-pop sound. They like to portray themselves as “cute stuff,” but the band’s hard-knocks roots clearly show when you see them live. You may be able to hum their melodies to your babies as you put them to sleep, but don’t sing the lyrics or it may cause nightmares. The style is part ’80s alternative pop and part current-day indie rock. Ghoul School is supporting local prog-pop indie punks Anime Aliens. 1517 21st Street, http://ghoulschoolband.tumblr.com.
