Eight Gigs: Evening of Bitchin' Badass Blues
Fri., March 6, 7:30 p.m., $35-$55
Three storied blues masters are set to deliver some raucous party music: Plying his rock and blues trade for more than 50 years, Elvin Bishop (pictured) remains relevant, still putting out new music like 2014's Can't Even Do Wrong Right. Blues chanteuse Bettye Lavette, whose vocal career also spans five decades—and who in 2014 released a no-holds-barred biography and a CD that reinterpreted tunes by Bob Dylan, the Black Keys and Gnarls Barkley—will also be on hand. Finally, “newcomer” Tommy Castro, who's been dishing out gritty blues for “only” about 30 years, will lay down high-energy sounds with his band, the Painkillers. 1013 K Street, www.elvinbishopmusic.com.
