Eight Gigs: Derrick Williams Memorial Benefit Show
Tues., Jan. 20, 8 p.m., Blue Lamp, $5
With all its bells and whistles, it's sometimes easy to forget hip-hop originates from a place of community unity. That's where it'll return for this benefit show. It benefits the family of Sacramento man Derrick Williams (pictured), who was in Oakland on New Year's Day when he was shot to death at a gas station. No arrests have been made, and Williams leaves behind his partner and son. So far the lineup includes Mic Jordan, Hennessy, P.O.O.R., D Monsta and a special to-be-announced headliner. It's a 21-and-over show and the $5 cover is a suggested minimum donation, with all proceeds going to Williams' family. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, www.bluelamp.com.
