Eight Gigs: Cura Cuchino
Fri., April 21, 7 p.m., Cafe Colonial, $14
Sacramento’s burgeoning metal scene is full of musicians who specialize in downtuned guitars, searing riffs and menacing vocals. But Cura Cochino stands out as the only local doom metal band that growls its lyrics en español. The five-piece group’s latest EP La Disección is an album that summons feelings of despair at a morose and droning pace. The EP’s closing song, “Funebre Amor” is Cura Cochino’s 11-minute magnum opus delivered with such wrath and features dynamic guitar work that changes pace with such fluidity. Keres, Mustard Gas and Roses, Modern Man and Kyntallah will also perform. 3520 Stockton Boulevard, www.facebook.com/curacochino.
