Eight Gigs: Cura Cochino
Mon., Aug. 24, 8 p.m., Blue Lamp, $10 in advance, $12 at the door
Doom en Español—and the language is no barrier for Sacto's Cura Cochino, which summons an ominous, fuzz-heavy, tenacious energy. The band enlists members from local groups like Knifethruhead, Times of Desperation and more; all of these influences give Cura Cochino (which translates as “the dirty priest”) its darker sound. The band's self-titled demo, released in 2010, is three tracks that entrance listeners with robust, menacing vocals backed by layers of chaotic feedback, driving bass and loud guitar melodies. Black Cobra from San Francisco and Sacto's Bog Oak will also perform. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, www.facebook.com/cura.cochino.
