Eight Gigs: Cosmopolitan Pirates
Sat., March 21, 8 p.m., Shine, $5
Formed in late 2014, Cosmopolitan Pirates has been busy making a name for itself. Piracy is in the band's blood. The three vocalists, two guitarists, trumpeter, alto and tenor sax players, keyboardist and percussionists will gladly funk up and pull from any genre. In a December concert, Bing Crosby's “White Christmas” was given a new twist and the 1944 tune “Baby It's Cold Outside,” a call and response duet, was updated for the 21st century while retaining what makes those songs classics. The Pirates met while attending American River College and cite Snarky Puppy, Galactic, Maceo Parker and other funk and jazz fusion performers as influences. Also on the bill is Miros. 1400 E Street, http://tinyurl.com/cosmopirates.
