Eight Gigs: Buddy Guy
Wed., April 8, 8 p.m, Mondavi Center, $18.50-$65
There's nothing cooler than the sound of blues guitar. At nearly 80, Buddy Guy still rocks the stage. He's one of the top guitarists in the world and works that electric guitar for all its worth—from slow, sultry and quieter than a whisper in “Five Long Years,” to a faster paced, more frenetic, yet always controlled, sort of howl. From the 1972 jam “Messin' with the Kid” to the 2008 song “Skin Deep,” he's kept churning out blues classics. Rooted in the urban sound of Chicago blues, he's influenced the likes of Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, George Thorogood and many others, yet he calls himself a student. 9399 Old Davis Road in Davis, www.buddyguy.net.
