Eight Gigs: Brubaker

Funk, metal, punk—these were readily available ingredients for NorCal club bands in the '90s. Most of those bands have come and gone, but a lot of the members are still kicking around playing in other groups. Brubaker is one of those bands. Formed in 2013, the group features members of Kai Kln, Hellworms, Bluchunks and Walrus. Rather than funkified-metal-punk, Brubaker offers some mean '70s hard rock riffage, with a flair of Southern rock and gritty, beer-soaked vocals. The band certainly has a no-nonsense approach to rocking out and headbanging, but it's also clear the musicians come from eclectic musical backgrounds, with subtly complex influences. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, www.facebook.com/brubakertheband.
