Eight Gigs: Bob Wayne
Fri., April 29, 8 p.m., Blue Lamp, $10
Bob Wayne is outlaw country, a hard edge with a kick-ass attitude behind the banjo. This country subgenre, inspired by giving the more pop-driven Nashville sound a big middle finger, opened the doors for musicians like Johnny Cash, Hank Williams Jr. and Waylon Jennings. With six original albums released throughout his career, Wayne launched his latest album, Hits the Hits, last year, where he adds his outlaw twist to songs like “Disturbia” by Rihanna and “Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin. Expect lively fiddles, lap steel guitar, harmonica, upright bass and percussion with his band the Outlaw Carnies. 1400 Alhambra Boulevard, www.bobwayne.org.
