Eight Gigs: Blues at the Crossroads
Wed., Feb. 4, 8 p.m., Mondavi Center, $15-30
Irma Thomas (pictured) is known as “The soul queen of New Orleans.” Lee Fields has long been called “Little JB.” While neither has achieved the commercial success of contemporaries like Aretha Franklin or James Brown, both have wowed worldwide audiences since the '60s. Thomas continues to be one of the staples of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, and Fields killed it at the High Sierra Music Festival a couple of years back. That's why it's such a delight that they'll be combining their soul superpowers in Davis. A house band featuring guitarist Eric Krasno of Lettuce, along with the high-octane Dynamites will be on hand for this special show. 9399 Old Davis Road, http://mondavicenter.ucdavis.edu.
