Eight Gigs: Black Milk
Sun., April 12, 8 p.m., Harlow’s, $15-$18
Detroit's bright hip-hop star Black Milk is both a commanding rapper and producer, earning wide critical acclaim ever since his major solo debut Popular Demand in 2007. His style was immediately fresh: soulful, sample-driven, a little funky and a little jazzy. Since then, he's released five solo rap records, one instrumental album and a bunch of collaborations—notably one with Danny Brown and a couple singles with Jack White. Indeed, Black Milk is as versatile as he is prolific. At his Sacramento show, he'll be joined by his live band Nat Turner, with keys, drums, bass and deejay. Prepare for some mad energy. 2708 J Street, http://blackmilk.biz.
