EDIBLE REVIEW: Kushy Punch Indica, Sativa and Hybrid Gummies
A candy for all reasons
As cannabis moves more into the mainstream, there seems to be an increased focus on specialized products and organic production methods. The one-size-fits-all approach and relatively anonymous labeling that generally prevailed during the days of medical cannabis has been replaced by packaging that informs consumers about the product's targeted effects.
The California-based nonprofit collective Kushy Punch makes their delicious, high-quality gummies with indica, sativa and hybrid strains. The smart packaging educates the customer enough to decide whether they want the sleep aid and pain relief of the plum-flavored Indica Gummies, the energy and creativity of the strawberry-flavored Sativa Gummies, or the blend of effects found in the tropical punch-flavored Hybrid Gummies.
Kushy Punch only uses organic flowers grown by farmers who don't use pesticides, and their “Soxhlet extraction method” runs the cannabis through organic sugar cane alcohol, rather than using harmful chemicals like butane. The candies were created by professional confectionary chefs using high-grade gelatin leaf and natural extracts instead of powdered gelatin, corn syrup and artificial flavorings.
Unlike many cannabis edibles we have encountered, the Kushy Punch Gummies smell and taste like dank weed without ever getting medicinal. The Hybrid Gummies smell like red licorice and taste like marijuana fruit roll-ups, while the Sativa Gummies taste like pot-slathered strawberries.
Only the slightly harsh “plum” flavor (it felt more like figs to us) of the Indica Gummies was a letdown. However, all three Kushy Punch Gummies achieve their desired effects, and the consistency of the candies was consistently excellent.
