Best band I ever saw, NRBQ, will return to the Palms next Wednesday to mix its sonic wizardry with that club’s magical feng shui. But that’s in Davis, and this is Sacramento, and you’re looking for a way to kick off your wild weekend, right? Tamaras, a Hollywood-based singer/songwriter, will play Club 21 at 1119 21st St. on Friday, April 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. Best of all, the admission’s free. If you’re looking for shiny happy power pop and tight-as-a-Speedo tunesmithery, this may not rock your rubber duckie— Tamaras’ freestyle emo singing is probably what Cracker’s David Lowery had in mind when he penned that immortal line about folksingers. But as Ani diFranco has proved, there are plenty of people who think otherwise—and the singer’s blend of pensive guitar and whisper-to-a-rant vocals may be the kind of thing that’s right up your alley.
