Drowning Mona

The world’s meanest, bitchiest housewife (Bette Midler) drives off a cliff into a watery death in this wannabe wacky whodunit. When evidence suggests foul play, everyone in her rural New York hamlet, including her cheating husband (William Fichtner), her one-handed idiot son (Marcus Thomas) and their two-timing waitress girlfriend (a frumpy Jamie Lee Curtis) is a suspect. Police Chief Rash (Danny DeVito) is sniffing for clues, but the characters are too dimwitted and broadly drawn to keep the irreverent script humming. Directed by Nick Gomez (Laws of Gravity, Illtown).
