Drive-in win
Sacramento 6 Drive-In

You did it, Sacramento! When other cities let their drive-in movie theaters perish from multiplex neglect, you remained devoted to our beloved Sacramento 6 Drive-In. Even in the lean, sketchy times in the early 2000s, when every other toilet was clogged and half the snack shack was dark, you kept showing up for first-run movies at bargain prices. Now that the recession has shown everyone the glory of $6.75 double features, our local outdoor cinema is booming. The screens have never been brighter, the concessions are well-stocked and the attendance records are off the charts. To show their appreciation, the folks at West Wind Theaters have invited the entire community to screenings of Toy Story 3, Iron Man 2 and Grown Ups this Thursday night. Bring chairs, blankets and the whole family. There’s no need to hide anyone in the trunk, because it’s all free!
Gates open at 6 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, for live music by Burnin’ Blue, BMX stunt riders and children’s activities. Movies begin at 8 p.m. Admission is free. Sacramento 6 Drive-In, 9616 Oates Drive; (916) 363-6572, www.westwinddi.com.
