Drink Me: Like the Belgians do
The St. Arnold Ale, Monk's Cellar
There's a relatively new Roseville place called Monk's Cellar, which opened in October and serves mainly Belgian-styled brews. The spot has a full restaurant, bar and its own brewery from which one can try seven brewed-in-house beers for $10.50. Brewmasters Peter York and Andy Klein have loads of experience in the local scene: Sacramento Brewing Company, Lodi Beer Company and Sacramento Brewing Services are on their collective resume. The quadrupel here is called the St. Arnold Ale, and it's nearly as rich in flavor as some quads from Belgium. It's syrupy with a hint of fruitiness, but it might be a little more fun with some more bite. Grab one for just $5. 240 Vernon Street, in Roseville; (916) 786-6665; www.monkscellar.com.
