Draw fire
These quick-draw line drawings may make you chortle or may light the fire under your ire, but you won’t find them on the comics page. We’re talking about the political cartoons typically on the editorial and op-ed pages of newspapers and now spotlighted in Target: California, America’s Cartoonists Set Sights on the Golden State at the newly named California Museum for History, Women, and the Arts, located at 1020 O Street. Displayed until September 5, this exhibit includes work by not only Garry Trudeau, Pat Oliphant and Sacramento’s own Rex Babin, but also others from across the continent. Their works offer irreverent but mostly accurate Midwestern, Southern, East Coast and even Canadian takes on the Golden State, from the energy crisis to our Botox-injected, youth-obsessed culture and, of course, the recall. But the state’s present Hollywood A-list leader reigns as their favorite fodder of all. For more information, call (916) 653-7524.
