Don’t be koi
Koi is just a Japanese word for “carp.” Despite their humble roots, the colorful fish adorn many backyard ponds and can live up to 70 years (the oldest recorded koi lived to be 226). The 10th annual Combined Koi Show will offer all the tools to keep a koi healthy and happy: exhibits with expert pond builders, information about the latest in koi-keeping technology using solar energy and discussions with professionals about koi health. There also will be koi for sale and a “Best in Show” competition. The event will be Saturday, September 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, September 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Placer County Fairgrounds in Roseville. Admission is free.
