Doggie days of summer
It’s true that dogs lick their own butts, but that doesn’t mean they can’t appreciate the finer things in life. Take, for instance, the Doggie Derby, a canine carnival sponsored by the Friends of the Placer County Animal Shelter. Any pooch would get down on all fours in order to attend this free event. I mean, what dog wouldn’t love bobbing for hot dogs, participating in the “Best Tail Wagger” competition and showing off his or her best doggy trick? Oh, and let’s not forget about the five-kilometer run/walk. It costs $25 to participate in the run, but the funds raised will go to a variety of animal-friendly programs. The Doggie Derby will take place this Saturday from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Those participating in the run should arrive an hour early to register. Put the pooch in the car and head to the Auburn Recreation Park, located at 123 Recreation Drive in Auburn. Call (530) 887-5520 or visit www.animalplace.com for more information.
