Disaster Movie

Writer-directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer—the geniuses behind Epic Movie, Date Movie and Meet the Spartans—are back with another of their barren, laughless spoofs. Despite the title, the target this time isn’t disaster movies but science fiction, with sideswipes at Amy Winehouse, Indiana Jones, the Chipmunks—even The Dark Knight, which has been in release for only six weeks (Friedberg and Seltzer are nothing if not up to date). All the trademarks are here: the sloppiness, the endless riffs that aren’t even funny to begin with, the celebrity “lookalikes” who have to keep telling us who they’re supposed to be, etc. Can’t somebody make Friedberg and Seltzer stop? It’s hard to believe their movies make enough of a profit to keep them working; maybe the $75 budgets have something to do with it.
