Did You Hear About the Morgans?
The excruciating Did You Hear About the Morgans? is the third time that Hugh Grant and writer-director Marc Lawrence have paired up for a romantic comedy, so you would at least expect a large comfort zone. However, Grant seems perpetually abashed at being asked to trot out his flummoxed, dithering man-boy shtick for this pathetic culture-clash vehicle, and appears to have great difficulty lifting his head or looking any of his co-stars in the eye. Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker play a separated Manhattan power couple who get shuttled to Wyoming via the Witness Protection Program after witnessing a murder. The rest of the barely written movie is standard-issue country mouse/city mouse crap (New Yorkers have cell phones and marriage counselors, but Wyomingites shoot guns and ride horses—crazy!), indifferently acted and without a single laugh to be found.
