Dessert for breakfast
Nutella brioche
The display cases at Estelle's Patisserie always send me into agony. The first dilemma: “breakfast” pastry or straight-up dessert? My favorite way to satisfy both needs is the Nutella brioche ($3.50). It looks like a muffin, but it's infinitely superior. When you tear off the cap of rich, eggy brioche—already a delight—you'll find a pool of your favorite chocolate-hazelnut spread inside. If you wanted to dip a knife in and spread every morsel of brioche with a little Nutella, you certainly could. Or you could just gobble it all down at once—and chase it with espresso. 901 K Street, www.estellespatisserie.com.
