Designer dreams
Entering the world of fashion is a universal dream for models, designers and teenage girls worldwide. But it’s difficult to actually make a splash in the industry. This week, people can get serious about fashion by being a part of Sacramento Fashion Week, an event geared toward showcasing the artistic and fashion talents of the Sacramento area. The event is produced by local fashion production company Magnum Opus Enterprises and takes place Thursday through Sunday. All proceeds will be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The following is a list of Sacramento Fashion Week events:
Launch Party: Fashion Week kicks off Thursday night at the trendy Lounge on 20 (1050 20th Street), where local fashionistas will be kicking back with a cocktail. The free event takes place February 24, at 7 p.m.
Fashion Workshops: The International Academy of Design & Technology will hold two free design workshops for fashion students Friday, February 25. Instructor Esther Amato will teach “Patternmaking and Draping Basics” in IADT Room 203, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Instructor Teresa Olson will teach “Making Beautiful Fashion Theme Board Presentations” in IADT Room 205, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. IADT is located at 2450 Del Paso Road.
Emerging Artist Showcase: This event Friday night showcases the hottest styles from Sacramento’s emerging designers, including Aubrey Jade, Brenda Villalta, Faatui Toele, Kira Martinson, Maisha Bahati, Nkaujer (Jules) Thor and Noognuv Thao. It happens Friday, February 25, at 8 p.m. at the Elks Tower Historic Ballroom, 921 11th Street. Tickets cost $35 to $135.
Finale Showcase: This show on Saturday, February 26, displays Sacramento’s hottest established designers, including Ceazar Cabreros, Janelle Cardenas, Nelly Salogub, Melissa Kay, Eshonna Trice, Linzel Couture and Tiana Vega. It will also take place at the Elks Tower. Tickets cost $35 to $135.
