Delectable capsaicin

The best season of the year, Hatch green chili season, is sadly over. Green chilies from the tiny southern New Mexican town of Hatch are pretty much the bee’s knees. And they’re finally making their way to this side of the California border. Even my grandparents drove an hour from their San Diego home to line up for freshly roasted chilies. Although the official season has passed, the fiery peppers are available canned in Sacramento. Look for the bright yellow cans of Hatch green chili at the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op (1900 Alhambra Boulevard).
